Professional development is a key factor in making and maintaining good conservation practice and informed decisions surrounding the future care of our heritage. PCOI shares a vision and passion to develop, connect and inspire the conservation community. We aim to make Belfast a hub to host and provide professional training in leading conservation innovations.

Ruth Bothwell
FOUNDER
Ruth Bothwell is a Belfast based decorative surfaces conservator. Ruth studied decorative arts in Van der Kelen, Brussels, painting and frame conservation at The London School of Painting and Frame Restoration and gained an MSc in Building Conservation from the University of York. Her company Decowell Restoration established in 1996, specialises in the conservation of decorative surfaces, historic interiors, paintings and frames. Ruth is passionate about training and professional development within built heritage skills and throughout the conservation sector.

Angela McDowell
FOUNDER
Angela McDowell is a practical experienced conservator with an established practice as A.M Conservation. Angela received an MA in the Conservation Of Fine Art Easel Painting (Newcastle, UK) and a BA Honours in the Conservation and Restoration of Furniture (Manchester, UK). After completing a two-year easel painting conservation internship, Angela opened her first studio in 2003 in Southern California. She returned home after 18 years and now enjoys working between her studios in Durham and Belfast.

Alison Pascoe
ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR
Alison Pascoe is a Belfast based artist and craftsperson with an established practice as ASTRL Fibres. Alison studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design followed by a decade of retail and project management. Since 2016 Alison has provided administrative support for Decowell Restoration alongside establishing her own practice. As a specialist craftsperson Alison has learned to wear many hats and is a passionate about creating a culture of skill sharing to keep heritage techniques in practice.
